Every leader wants to have winning ideas. These are the ideas which, if implemented, lead to a healthier organization or department and cause a rise in profit and staff retention. You can have an increased number of winning ideas by go through a process of thinking. The process includes taking time to engage in thinking so you can generate many ideas, then expand your ideas into great ones, and finally take action on the great ideas.
The first step in the process is to schedule time to think. During this time you should concentrate on certain areas of your work. It might be in the area of your core responsibilities, work processes and procedures you are able to control, current or future products or services you want to offer, the working environment, or an idea relevant to your chosen field. You can always think broadly about one of these areas until you are able to chisel away to a specific or core idea. The habit of taking undistracted time to think about or on one of these areas will cause you to gain a wealth of new, creative, and fresh ideas.
While the first step of the process will allow you to gain a lot of good ideas, you should not settle for a good idea. If you put in a little more focused thinking you have the potential to turn a good idea into a great one. You will want to evaluate to see if the initial idea is worth expanding into a great one, if it should be placed on paper or in your memory for the future, or if you should quickly forget about it. Elements to consider when it comes to a potentially great idea is if it’s closely connected to your leadership responsibilities, the well-being of the followers you lead, and the department or organizations goals and vision (which are usually relevant to increasing profit or retention). If you determine the idea is worth expanding you should take time to deeply think about the specific idea. Do this until the good idea forms into a winning idea.
The last step is to put action on your idea by releasing or implementing it. This is an essential step in creating and launching winning ideas.
