Focus On Your Core Values

It’s essential for leader’s to focus on their core values. A leader’s core values should be their compass which directs, guides, and manages their life. The word value means, “to consider with respect to worth, excellence, usefulness, or importance” and “to regard or esteem highly.” Core values are simply things which have the most value in your life. Which might include things such as a spouse, family, parenting,  relationships, spirituality, or health. Everyone has core values but not everyone focuses on them.

The problem is when other things take the time away from your values. I have heard many people say they value their family but who are always at work. Or they value their health but never exercise or eat healthy. But a leader should focus first on their core values. Which often has nothing to do with their leadership position or title. It takes daily prioritizing and discipline to stay focused on your core values. But the rewards are countless.

What are some of your core values and how do you stay focused on them?

  1. One of my core values is to be a godly husband. I wish I could say I always succeed with that but that would not be true. I try to spend as much time with her as I can. When it was time for her job to end and they wanted to fire someone else, I stood with her and made the decision that we could not allow that to happen. She resigned, even though we knew it would change our financial picture. I wanted her to know i was with her.

    • I beleive your core value in being a Godly husband is one of the most important ones. This is also one of my top core values. I know spending time with your loved one is more important than gaining more money. It sounds like you guys made the right choice. Thank you for sharing.
